Channels

A 'channel' is an anonymous communications channel between two particular members of GraduateRomance.org.uk. Each channel (a unique integer, prefixed with '#') is private for a specific pair of members: consider it as an alias for one other's profiles.

Channels are created when one person invites the other to join, or via the Valentine's card code, or when two people each nominate one another in the LoveWeb. Neither person necessarily knows the real identity nor the nickname of the other.

Why the anonymity? It maximises happiness by allowing people to take a chance on love, without gambling an existing friendship. [Show maths.]
