[relocated to Cardiff September 2013. Profile has still not been updated as of November 2014.]
[back in Cambridge since autumn 2011. profile will be updated in due course]
ad updated Jan 07.
I'm doing a PhD in the English faculty in Cambridge (because English Faculties are the obvious place to work on C20 German philosophy...) Currently house-sitting in London for a couple of weeks. Back in Cambridge late Jan, but generally in London for 2-4 days most weeks.
I guess I should start by saying that I'm happily in a relationship. Well, happily in a few relationships. So if you want something monogamous, best to look elsewhere. in terms of what I'm looking for, casual sex is fun, i suppose, but given the choice I'd prefer something a bit more involved and longer lasting. But clearly not the sort of thing where we live in each other's pockets. Honesty's important, as are commitment and fidelity, but given what they've come to mean, they may need rethinking a bit.
oh, and I'm bisexual. one might have thought that being in the MsE category would suggest this, but apparently not. I can also be fairly submissive, when required.
I probably care too much about my research, which is on the intersection between philosophy, politics and experimental poetry. but then again I'm doing it because i think it matters. So ideally you'll at least be prepared to tolerate this, better still share it and bounce ideas around.
currently (re)reading Thedor Adorno, Negative Dialectics Michel Henry, Voir l'invisible: sur Kandinsky, Moishe Postone Time, Labor and Social Domination, Peter Szondi, An Essay on the Tragic, Frank O'Hara, Collected Poems.
i'm political and environmentally active, with strong/dogmatic (depending on who you listen to) convictions, so if you go everywhere by car or think that the invasion of iraq was a good idea (or vote tory) then it's probably best if you're prepared for a lot of potential disagreement. If you're not at all interested in politics, you've probably stopped reading now.
some things i enjoy and like to share/talk about
- reading (no surprises there, then)
- wine
- singing
- cooking
- music (almost anything from Bach to free improvisation)
- good whisky (currently have bottles of Caol Ila, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie and Macallan on the go)
- walking in interesting places, whether the Lakes or the East End
- skiing
- long, hot baths
- cycling (especially in hillier places than Cambridge)
- good food, whether home-made or in a good pub or molecular gastronomy
- great sex (crap sex, in contrast, being less fun than taking a mildly satisfying shit)
- experimental poetry
- saunas
