Photograph: "Paradise Harbour" in Antarctica. I remain completely penguinised, * although the alarmingly wild beard was only temporary, and the so-called "red squirrel" has been safely returned to the wild! This summer's expedition was to the Arctic, to see Polar Bears in the Midnight Sun, to climb fjords, walk on glaciers, and reach Kvitøya. Since I may also be spotted in a kilt * on occasion, I am indeed a Scot of the Antarctic. And, having started gliding, I am living proof that penguins can fly!
I am a complete Romantic at heart, and being a tenor, you may find yourself being serenaded! I adore Classical music (especially the late-romantic period), am learning to dance salsa, enjoy photography, flying, and the countryside. I'm also a fan of Sherlock (in his various incarnations), and of Bertie Wooster. I relish almost any discussion, whether it be philosophy, classics, literature, history, theology or politics. Naturally, I'd love to share good food and wine with you; this includes home-made Grand Marnier & marmalade ice-cream, 100% dark chocolate, and poached eggs (yes, I can cook these and get them right!). Recently, I dug a major book-retailer out of a (metaphorical) deep hole; and climbed up a (literal) ladder to rig up 2200 Christmas lights. Here are just a few more words, not selected at random: Mahler, penguins, daemons, inventiveness, improvisation *, tartan, cub, geranium, salsa. Please ask me about them...
I am looking for somebody very special: elegant, but with a soft-centre. Perhaps you prefer the theatre or concert hall for an evening out, yet you still know that, really, the best romantic movie is "Lady and the Tramp". Also, you aim to use this site as an entrée to a meeting in the real world, rather than a purely virtual affair. As for me, I'm (apparently), "a good catch"; I know how to treat a lady; as to looks, you can make up your own mind about the photograph!
I look forward to talking to you.
Richard
* Penguins are wonderful - great fun, clumsy on land and elegant in water. "There are two species of penguin in Antarctica: black ones going away from you, and white ones coming towards you."
* If you look carefully at the champagne bottle, you may be able to detect that it has been opened in the traditional manner.
* If you ask me nicely, I'll play you something on the piano: so far, my exploration of the culture of the last century has revealed many delights, so please pick one you like... |
